We’ve had an exciting month in Organizational Leadership!
Our focus this month has been on effective communication for work, home, and school. There was a special emphasis placed on the value of linguistic capital and our ability to understand the appropriacy of our verbiage in various settings. Some of the takeaways have been:
- Being a good listener (active versus passive listening)
- Staying mindful of our body language (a language of its own)
- Understanding the importance of tone – it’s not just what you say, but how you say it
- Confidence – eye contact and a firm handshake go a long way
While this isn’t an exhaustive list, it certainly conveys a few points we can all remain cognizant of when communicating with others.
